Bumper Stickers Now Capture Your Favorite Funny T-Shirt Sayings
Posted on July 5, 2008
The t-shirt has been around for quite a few years, and certainly changed from its original use; a simple undergarment for men; today you can get many with funny t-shirt sayings on them that really express your personality.
In fact, there was a time when its use almost disappeared. In the motion picture “It Happened One Night,” Clark Gable almost put the t-shirt makers out of business when he appeared in that movie without one! After all, if Clark Gable did not wear one, what red-blooded American man would?
Fortunately, the industry recovered. Over time, t-shirts emerged as their own form of apparel. First, they were a simple work shirt for laborers. Then a casual type of summer clothing, and now you see them everywhere. And, as always happens with any type of clothing, they began to evolve and change.
Today, you can see funny t-shirt sayings plastered on the chests and backs of men and women all over the world. There is everything from the classic: “I’m with stupid” to “Sarcasm: One of the many fine services we provide” and countless others.
Of course, as with any aspect of our society, one industry often copies the successful efforts of another. So, it was inevitable that the bumper sticker manufacturers should take those slogans and slap them on some stickers. Today, you can visit any of a number of retail stores and find many such stickers.
Or, if the price of gas has got you kind of “gun shy” about doing a lot of driving, just sit down at your computer and do a search on the Internet. There are a whole bunch of firms that sell standard, over-sized, and even magnetic bumper stickers sporting funny slogans.
In most cases, you can get these stickers at a discount, if you order in bulk. Also, a lot of web sites offer package deals, that is, you can buy an assortment of bumper stickers with different funny sayings on them, all for one low price. With the magnetic stickers, they cost a bit more, but the benefits of using them more than offset this drawback.
They come on and off easily; they don’t leave a mess on your car’s bumper; you can move them from one car to another - if (when) you sell your car, and you can even put them up in your house. Some people relish the idea of funny t-shirt sayings on their washer, dryer or other household appliance. They’re quite a talking point!

Wild Animal Themed Costumes for a Roaring Success
Posted on July 5, 2008
When it comes to picking a fancy dress costume party theme there are plenty of choices around an overall animal theme. From the exotic choice of a Jungle or Safari theme through Noah’s Ark to the more humble Farmyard and Circus themes there is plenty to choose from. Let’s look at some of the options;
Most popular would be a safari or jungle theme which would allow your guests to be truly creative. It also allows those less comfortable in full animal fancy dress to dress more simply in khaki, don their safari hats and be either a hunter or an explorer. If the party is to be outdoors then this theme can be carried through the decoration scheme outside with perhaps some parrots (see pirate accessories) in the trees and some exotic leaves or palm throngs. If you are short of trees or you are having the party indoors, plenty of green and brown streamers around the area will add the right colour. Any exterior lighting should be with garden flares or candles to in keeping with the safari feel. Safety point: if you are using streamers and are planning naked flames, make sure you have at minimum flame retardant decorations.
To continue the theme you could use a CD of animal noises – make sure you get one of exotic birds and animals and not farm yard – and you could keep this playing in the background to add to the atmosphere. This would be best played in the garden perhaps through a portable player suitably and carefully placed to be out of sight and protected from the weather.
Whether the party is for adults or children, you could use large animal cut-outs to decorate the either the room or the garden. These can be cut from cardboard, or flattened cardboard boxes and if you are not convinced of your artistic ability, paint them as matt black silhouettes. Pinned to the fence or wall and gently lit they will blend into the overall decoration theme.
If you want something a little less exotic, then you could opt for a Farmyard party. Again this will allow for some of your guests to dress as farmers or farm workers. Decoration outdoors could include some hay bales and the cut outs for decorations could include tractors and other farmyard machinery as well as other farm animals.
A Noah’s Ark animal themed party is a fantastic idea for a Twin’s Birthday Party. You may not get two of every animal but this is a great theme. The decoration could include a cardboard ark’s ramp at the entrance to the party and there is unlimited scope for the cut outs around the area – and don’t forget the biggest rainbow you can manage – think sample pots of paint slightly watered down. For children’s parties, bring in all the soft toy animals and let them add to the atmosphere.
Circuses require clowns in fancy dress as well as animals and the decoration could include cut outs for decoration could include tightrope walkers. Food could be toffee apples, hotdogs and popcorn in boxes.
The fancy dress costumes selected will depend on the age group being catered for. Animal costumes available for all ages and for those on a budget, there are some fantastic overhead masks and headbands. Some of the costumes include noisemakers and these are also available within some of the headbands.
If you can, why not hire a professional face painter to both entertain as well as adding to the costume effect of the party – this could be for both children’s and adult parties. If you are more adventurous and either want to do this yourself, or can find a willing helper, then face paints and face painting accessories are readily available and there are plenty of books with face painting designs available.

Kids Birthday Parties - Have They Gone Over the Top?
Posted on July 5, 2008
Whatever happened to good old fashioned birthday parties with cake and back-yard games? My nine year daughter recently attended a birthday party which included a limousine ride to The Ritz hotel for tea, followed by manicures and pedicures at a posh shop. I think most of us were first picked up in limos for our wedding - not a child’s birthday party. Since when did birthday parties become such extravagant affairs?
CNN.com reported on a full service children’s birthday party planning company in California that is run by a team trained in child development. They take six weeks to plan and it costs as much as $10,000. Now that’s a party.
In our now “more is better” culture, parents and kids are having higher and higher expectations of birthday parties. As a result, parents are feeling the financial strain and stress and kids are overloaded and over-indulged.
So how do you create an inexpensive, yet memorable birthday party? Keep it simple. Have the party at home and invite eight friends - not 20. Plan a fun craft that can be used as the take home party favor - eliminating the over-stuffed throw-away goody bag. Play good old fashioned games that kids will love. An obstacle course or sack race is great for both boys and girls of all ages. For younger kids, you can’t go wrong with ‘Duck Duck Goose’ (or Princess, Princess, Frog). For older kids, a dress-up relay race is always fun. Just use a bunch of clothes from the closet such as ties, dress up shoes, party dresses, hats.
There are lots of great birthday party ideas sites online to find fun birthday party themes and party games ideas. One site to try is Amazing Moms. Readers from all over the country submit birthday party ideas. You can also check out your local crafts store such as Michaels or Ben Franklin crafts for your activity materials or if you’re short on time, go online and find craft packages available to you.
Remember that the birthday party is for your children. Pick something that every child can participate in and keep it simple. This will allow you too as their parents to enjoy the festivities, hold the video camera and simply share in the excitement of your child’s celebration! They will grow up too fast so relish in these exciting and developing years!

The Dangers Of Leaving Your Wireless Network Unsecured
Posted on July 5, 2008
If you were to browse for wireless networks in a busy city you would be surprised at how many unsecured networks you will find, many people are oblivious to the dangers, however I would like to outline these.
By unsecure I am referring to a wireless network that is accessible without the need for a network key, although WEP is horribly insecure also I will not be covering its vulnerabilities in this article. Providing an attacker is in range he can connect to an unsecured wireless network and become a part of the local network. Ok so now what? The attack could then run an ip scan on the subnet to establish what is currently connected to the network. At this point the attacker could run various scans (port scans and so on) against the targets. It should be noted that this kind of scan would not be possible from outside of the network as usually a router acts as a firewall and only forwards on traffic to ports that have been assigned for forwarding.
With the above in mind you are at risk to certain exploits if an attacker becomes a part of your local area network, these however are dependent upon what services you are running and if you have any software firewall in place, however the following are more serious exploits that are the real dangers that will jeopardize your privacy and possible confidential details, and generally a software firewall will NOT protect you from these.
ARP poisoning - To put it simply this exploit enables an attacker to ‘pose’ as another computer or device, usually your router! This can be done simply by sending a certain amount of arp replies to the victim saying that he has the MAC address of the router. The victim then updates its ARP table and sends all traffic destined for the router to the attackers MAC address. By doing this the attack can then monitor ALL traffic coming in and out of the victim. This needs very little explanation as to why it poses a risk. A lot of confidential details (usernames, passwords) are sent over the internet in plain text or with weak encryption, thus allowing the attacker to compromise your email accounts or other websites you use. There is also the problem of the attacker being able to view pretty much everything your doing online! including all your msn conversations etc.
DHCP spoofing - This exploit requires a little more patience on the attackers behalf however if executed it can be very bad news for the victim. The attacker creates a DHCP server on their system, when a new user comes online whose adapter is set to automatically assign an ip address; the attackers DHCP server attempts to offer a DHCP packet before the router does, if the victim acknowledges the request the attacker can include any details they want, usually their own IP address as the gateway and also DNS server(s) The problems of this are explained below.
DNS poisoning - This is the most serious type of exploit, the attacker can execute this in two ways. The first is explained above, the second is for the attacker to gain access to the router (most unsecured networks are left with default settings, this means the password for the router is usually default also and can easily be found online or guessed!) and then changing the DNS server that it uses to one of the attackers (this could be a local one on the attackers machine, or a rogue one hosted elsewhere) All the attacker needs to do now is create some rogue DNS records that redirect the victim to imitations of websites, usually these look identical however once the username and password are entered and submitted, they get sent to the attacker instead of where they should be sent! The attacker can even get the page to forward the details onto the correct site aftewards, therefore the attack going completely unnoticed. Obviously this is a very big problem especially for sites such as ebay, paypal, and especially online banking.
These exploits above are the most common for an attacker to use to gain confidential information, there are many more and a lot are dependent upon the setup of the network and victims machine.
In summary, it is clear to see that leaving a wireless network unsecure can have serious implications, and gives attackers an open door for them to gain access to all kinds of confidential information. The following security precautions are advised to give optimal security for home users:
-Always secure your network with a WPA or WPA2 key, make sure that the key is long in length and also complex. Avoid WEP at all costs, it is redundant and can be broken in minutes providing an attacker has a good signal.
-Implement MAC address filtering, this only allows traffic from registered MAC addresses. While MAC addresses can be spoofed, it can be a hard process as an attacker has to sniff traffic and anaylse frame headers to see source/target MAC addresses of an authenticated client, this can be very difficult for an unassociated client.
-Don’t broadcast your SSID, while this on its own will not stop an attacker, it is an extra layer of security.
-Use a software firewall, I recommend Agnitum Outpost.
While no system in the world will ever be 100% secure, it is important to implement as many security precautions as possible to prevent attackers from exploiting. With the above points in place an attacker would have an extremely hard time ever gaining access to your network.

Diplomas For Home Schooled Children
Posted on July 5, 2008
Diploma’s, we absolutely comprehend what they are. It’s that piece of paper you received when you graduated from premium classroom or university that is probably packed to one side in your parent’s attic. So if you never ever use or need your luxurious junior high school diploma, do Bobby and Sue need to have diplomas to mark their scholastic achievement?
You may be thinking that this is a bit confusing, but don’t worry you are not the only mom wondering what to do bordering on this decision. Remember when you went to apply for your headmost job? Did they ask you for your certificate? The answer is most likely no; companies don’t care about viewing your formal certificate. Even so they did ask you for your transcript. This is a good thing to remember, a diploma is just a physical representation of your child’s course of study, nevertheless it’s the records of their learning that needs to be kept in a historical transcript format.
In any event, a certificate still has some significance. In one and only way, it’s a declaration of prominence it for your children. Some parents choose to give their children diplomas so that he or she can be aware of that their victory is valued and are praised for their hard work and resolution. Several states now have a program that allows the homeschooled youth in their state to acquire a state-accredited certificate.
Its good to be acquainted with the rules of your state in and out, above all if your children applies for jobs and their expensive middle school certificate is not perceived.
So, go forth and blow the trumpet. You and your children put in the hard work and self discipline while educating at home sweet home. The time, the self-discipline, and yes the fun should be awarded. If a certificate is the way you call for to do this, there are plenty services on the web that will expand a pro looking certificate you can frame and maybe one weekday, it will be in your attic!

Keeping The Information On Your Site Safe
Posted on July 5, 2008
Even if you do not have any national security documents on your web site, it is very important to take your web site’s security seriously. If you sell products on your web site, this is especially important.
There is evidence, as shown in many published reports, of in excess of 89 million data breaches of identity records. These occurred in the year 2007 alone. Go to the Identity Theft Resource Center and do some reading. The facts will throw fear into your heart. Businesses can now use companies that are specialists in handling financial information, and leave all the worries to them. A sales webpage will use links on sales pages for ordering which redirect straight to PayPal, 2CheckOut, or other payment services. When using this method, credit card numbers and all personal information from the customer is no longer dealt with or exposed.
But that does not leave you totally in the clear. If you are selling a digital product that the customer can download immediately after the purchase, you need to ensure that the product is protected. There are many ways that web site owners inadvertently leave their valuable products unprotected - making them available for free to anyone who knows where to look.
The three most common mistakes are:
1. Easy to guess filenames.
If the title of your e-book is ‘AdWords Secrets’, then don’t name the file AdWordsSecrets.pdf. It is just too easy to guess that the URL for downloading your e-book might be www.example.com/AdWordsSecrets.pdf
At least add a version number or a date into the filename, e.g. AdWordsSecrets_v42.pdf or AdWordsSecrets_20070707.pdf. This will make it much more difficult to guess the filename and the URL.
2. Google creating a catalog of either the item or related page.
With an increase in efficiency of today’s search engines it has become quite difficult to keep any website a secret from search engines. Even without public links accessing your product download page there are other ways for a search engine to discover it and index it. After it has been indexed anyone using that search engine will find your product download page information in their search results, making them able to download your product without charge.
You should regularly check what each search engine knows about your web site. In most major search engines you can use the site: operator, e.g. site:example.com, to get a listing of all the pages on your web site that have been indexed.
3.Txt robots constructed poorly.
robots.txt is a text file that you can place on your web server to guide search engines to what content they are allowed to index and what is off limits. While this may prevent most search engines from indexing your secret web pages, it opens up another vulnerability: any curious web surfer is able to view your robots.txt file. If the file explicitly forbids search engines from looking in the /downloads or /report directories, then it’s very likely that’s where the secret files are stored. With this knowledge the web surfer can more easily find your product and download it for free.
You need to strike the right balance between protecting certain files and directories in robots.txt while not revealing too much about the structure of your web site.
Digital products are a great item to sell online. Be sure that you are getting paid for the items you have put the time into creating by using the guidelines listed above.

Honesty - Your Best Sales Aid
Posted on July 5, 2008
Selling has a murky reputation, ask anyone. Salespeople are infamous for their deceptive practices. Would you buy a used car from a salesman?
I said all of that to get it out of the way before you thought it. Yes, its clear that sales is an activity without the shining reputation of politicians, lawyers, real estate agents and journalists. Ok, I am kidding, there.
So what am I on about in suggesting that honesty has an important place in selling? There are two reasons. The first is the rather obvious moral one; it is a good thing for other people, society and the planet if there is more rather than less honesty.
The second is not as self-evident. When a person deceives, or rather attempts to, he or only makes a so-so job of it. What I mean is that even if they can manage to utter deceptive words, body language, micro gestures and delivery give the game away.
With all the news about terrorism and security issues, there has been much coverage of how information is obtained when suspects are interviewed. One key indicator of deception is hesitation in supplying (making up) an answer. The other is that when a person is lying, it takes so much brain effort that they dont produce the body activity which is normal when someone is giving a description of an event or situation which has really occurred.
Im passing on this information to you but theres really no need, because everybody always reads body language all the time. That is a very definite statement, so let me give you the justification. Before humans evolved speech, they, like other animals, still communicated with one another. A mixture of grunts, squeals and body language was the medium. Everybody became skilled at it since survival depended on being able to recognise danger.
We still have that mechanism. It operates unconsciously all the time. The way it informs us about the intentions of others isnt by delivering a word-message. Instead we get feelings. You take to someone, feel relaxed in their company, or are put-off and made cautious when you sense falseness.
If a person is honest in what they say, their body language confirms the words. Certain gestures are characteristic of honesty. And because our skill at reading body-language is so acute, we can spot fakers very fast. So even when a politician is schooled in such gestures as the open palm and the direct gaze other micro-clues give them away. Look at dancers who wear professional smiles for an example.
A great thing about honesty in sales is that it permits you to be spontaneous and genuine in your enthusiasm for what you are selling. Enthusiasm is catching and highly convincing. Whats more by being honest you avoid any nagging doubt about the value of what you are doing for your customers.
If this seems pollyanna-ish to you because there are situations where a ‘white lie seems justified, be careful. People arent stupid, youll get found out and when that happens youve lost repeat business and referrals.
Try being honest you might like it

Addictions Aren’t Pretty
Posted on July 5, 2008
We’ve all had addicts in our lives and we know it’s not pretty. Addicts can’t think clearly because their brain is so focused on whatever brings them the most pleasure, whether it’s painkillers, coffee, sex, shopping, chocolate, vanilla wafers, or oxygen. And those are just my addictions.
Recently I’ve discovered that my dog Maddy Lou is addict. Like mother like dog, I guess. Her substance of choice? Algae. That’s right, algae. And until you’ve seen an algae addict with the long stringy stuff hanging from her mouth, not even moving from her spot when you yell “Cookie,” you haven’t really seen them all.
There’s a fish pond in my backyard. Waterfalls, streambed, koi, the whole thing. I blew $3500 on this pond, but the upside is I had less money for chocolate and vanilla wafers for almost a year. Now I just need to find another place to funnel my mad money.
Where there’s a fish pond, there’s going to be algae. Don’t let the Pond People (doesn’t that sound like a great title for a really bad sci fi movie?) sell you $500 worth of chemicals and scrubbing devices that promise to keep your pond algae free. Unless you turn it it to a chlorinated swimming hole — which, by the way, will greatly disturb the fish’s addiction to living — there will be algae by the bucketful.
My husband and I both remove algae from the pond in our spare time, between fighting over how spicy to make the chili and watching how they built the pyramids on Discovery. I put the algae in a bucket and then dump the bucket in the compost pile. Hubby tosses the algae willy-nilly about the yard, despite my having asked him a thousand times NOT TO THROW THE ALGAE IN THE YARD BECAUSE MADDY LOU WILL EAT IT! I’ve even approached the conversation like you’re supposed to do with a two-year old who supposed can’t hear the word “Don’t.” I say “PUT THE ALGAE IN THE BUCKET,” but again, he hears, BLAH BLAH BLAH. I know, because he gets that same look on his face I get when he starts describing how to rebuild an engine.
So there’s algae on the lawn and a dog with an algae addiction in the house. Needless to say, she spends all day pacing back and forth between wherever I am and the back door, begging to be let out. She tries everything. The look that says “I really DO need to pee this time.” “Squirrel! I swear I saw a squirrel!” “Whoa! Was that a burglar stealing our koi?” It’s pitiful really.
She’s in detox now. I’ve cleaned all the algae I can from the back yard and I only let her out on supervised visits. I know my neighbors think I’m nuts as I follow my dog around the back yard like the Secret Service follows Dick Cheney every time he picks up a shotgun. I play a meditation videotape for her during the day to help her manage her Post Algae Stress Syndrome. I’ve even encouraged her brother to hump her to take her mind off her problems.
I’m hoping the onset of the rainy season will reduce the algae production and the likelihood of my husband leaving the warm, dry house for the backyard. But I’m not foolish enough to think breaking Maddy Lou’s addiction will be that easy. Next year, I plan to tell hubby DO NOT TOSS THE ALGAE IN THE NEIGHBOR’S YARD.

The Latest Craze in Blogging - Video Blogging
Posted on July 5, 2008
Recently, blogs have gained much popularity in many online communities because people have the ability to hide their identity and write about subjects that they relate to, and sometimes bloggers feel strongly towards a certain story or issue. Vblogging has become a recent We then look towards vblogging, which is changing the way we look at blogging and bloggers.
Vblogging allows users and readers to see the face of the blogger, while he talks away to his readers. Some bloggers may not be comfortable talking to a camera, and may want to just continue to write on their blogs without showing any interest in what vblogging can actually do for their and that their facial expressions are on show to the whole world, but others might jump at the chance. Some of these such people will stick to traditional blogging in the sense of writing posts to their blog and ignore the aspects of video blogging.
If you’re a person who is shy in-front of the camera, then vblogging (video blogging) probably isn’t going to be good for you, as the whole world could potentially view your videos online. If you are having problems and trying to find the time to post two or three times to your blog each day, then you are probably better to not produce any video posts to your blog, as you should publish a regular traditional written post each day too. Many internet users love video blogs as they share so much incite than a post could do, yet many internet users and blog readers like to read and comment on the more traditional blog posts written by their favourite bloggers. So, unless your blog is downright crap you probably should continue doing what you are as your readership will continue to read your blog and other traditional blogs in your niche.
If you’ve made the decision that vblogging is for you and that you’re going to start a vblog, then you will need to pay attention to a few important points. The most important is that your face will be viewed by millions of people throughout the world who tune into see your vblog. Your video and image, once loaded will stay on the internet for quite a long time; therefore, if you don’t want to appear all over the internet then I would suggest that vblogging is just not for you. But, you should keep at your traditional blogging of posting daily, as subscribers will want to stay tuned so that they don’t miss any important stuff that you have to say or comment on.
If you’re serious about using video posts on your blog then you should look into doing many different things. You will need to keep your video posts short, engaging to the reader and humuorus at the same time. You will need structure for what you are going to say, just like you would when you write a blog post, and you will need to follow the plan you have so you’re not considered a ‘rambler vblogger’. Having weekly themes on your blog can help people in making the decision to come to your blog to watch your weekly video - this will also create an increased amount of traffic to the other posts on your site, as many people will view your other posts after they’ve watched your weekly video.
Vblogging is similar to traditional blogging in a couple of ways. A topic that you feel comfortable about is best for your to actually talk about in your videos, you will feel more comfortable and confident talking about something you have at least a little knowledge about and an area that interest you somewhat - you will need increased commitment to a video blog, as many video posts take a lot more time and effort than writing a 1,000 word post. You could choose to hire an actor/actors to produce your video post for you, but this may become expensive and most probably isn’t a representation of you, the actors could read the scripts you provided them, but they would end up being the ‘front line face’ for your blog - doing this can protect your identity, but it can also have negative impacts on people recognising you later as a video blogger (vblogger).
Setting up your very own vblog really isn’t too difficult, all you need is a video camera, some editing software to remove the parts of the recording that aren’t needed and the ability/time to upload and configure the video to your blog. Some people put up video posts onto their blogs as much as twice per day, so, you will need to look at what type of schedule that you’re looking at and think about whether you want to vblog or not. Now, many other bloggers, who have traditional blogs do tend to publish a video post once a week or once every two weeks, so if you want to try this on your traditional blog then it could be a good start.
If you have a number of blogs that you post to, then you might not have the time to setup a vblog and post videos to it daily - this is ok, as most readers will like the enjoyment and anticipation of when the next video post is going to be published. Vblogging is very exciting and fun, as it lets you become ‘face to face’ and actually speak to the readers of your blog, doing so increases the readability of your blog and the quality that your blog is accepted in.
VBloggers who have vblogs are gaining a huge following online and are staring in their own shows, some are talking about quite controversial topics too and are thus creating a substantial readership base and following. Vblogs include not only the video blogger, but other people (including their family and friends) that they invite to star in their videos. Some video blog posts even include work colleagues or mentors to help the video blogger achieve credibility in their topic area. Internet users who search across the internet are generally wanting to find answers to certain questions, as well as enjoy a giggle or two whilst doing it; video blogging takes this to the next stage and looks at blogging as even more of a personal view of a part of the world’s online community.
