Can You Ever Be Too Old To Lose Weight?

As we get older we almost inevitably develop some excess body fat, and it's almost as if we're fighting a losing battle at times. Furthermore our motivation for losing weight tends to diminish as we get older. This leads to a lot of people being overweight in their later years. So can you reach a point where you're too old to lose weight?

Well in a word, no. There may be exceptions, for example if you are too immobile to be able to do any form of exercise, but even in this instance you can change your diet so you take in less calories, so for most people it's very much possible to lose weight in your old age.

Successful weight loss comes down to two things - exercise and a good diet.

Obviously as you get into your old age you don't want to be going on long runs or going to the gym all the time as your body may not be up to such strenuous exercises, but there's no reason why you can't do some walking every day, for example. Even light exercise is better than no exercise at all.

There's also no reason why you can't alter your diet to ensure that you're eating a well-balanced diet that will ensure that not only will you not gain any more weight, but you're actually losing a few pounds as well.

It's even more important because as your body ages you naturally want to rest more and become more reluctant to do exercise, so the food you eat plays a major role in determining your overall weight. If you're doing little exercise and eating all the wrong foods then you're only going to gain weight in the long run.

Of course some would argue that they've earned the right to eat what they like and take it easy, and that's fair enough, but for those who do want to lose weight the good news is that you're never too old to lose weight, but as with anything you have to apply yourself. Force yourself to do some form of regular exercise on a regular basis and pay close attention to the foods you eat and you should soon see the pounds drop off.
