Oh my gosh. What a \”bassinet-full\” of emotions and conflicts. Imagine it, your best girlfriend, co-worker, daughter or sister is having a baby! You ARE very happy for her…ecstatic, in fact. A new baby, a new life, new beginnings. On the dark side, the NEEDS. The baby needs clothing, a crib, a baby backpack, booties, toys, music…yikes. And the mother. She needs support, her friends, her family to help bridge the shock of adjusting to the new addition to her life.

And now, you\’ve been asked to plan one for her.

You must have been to 2 or 3 baby showers in the past year at least. Babies happen, after all. It doesn\’t matter if your 20,30…. or 60. You\’ve been to so many in fact that it seems routine, almost…obligatory. Yecch! That\’s not for you. Your baby shower (I do mean HER baby shower) won\’t be like that. No, the ladies at your baby shower will be talking about it for weeks…that is if you do it right. The invitations are compelling, interesting, funny. The table settings are elegant, food for the eye as well vessels for for the food. The centerpieces draw attention…but don\’t distract. The menu is nourishing for the body and the soul, just like the mother for her newborn but sensual, delighting.

Attractive settings, delicious food and conversation, when well done, can be enough to set your baby shower apart but you want to guarantee a smashing event. How can you loosen lips, open hearts and let the love flow? Alcohol can be effective but it is such a blunt instrument! And, really, booze and a pregnant or breast feeding mother? Doesn\’t seem to be a healthy combination. Isn\’t it HER day after all? No, you need something clever, subtle, effective, easy and that doesn\’t require cashing in your retirement savings or children\’s education fund.

Oh, I know. We\’ve all been to a shower where the games were silly, boring and out of touch with the mood of the moment. One of my best girlfriends had her shower and we played a game with clolthespins on our belts. I really don\’t remember the rules or the point of the game (I doubt anyone else did either) but whenever someone did something that broke the rules they had to add or remove a pin. Whoever had the most pins or the least or whatever lost at the end.

Our 1st birthday parties may not be remembered by the honored guest but its very important to the mommy and daddy and other guests helping out with the celebration. Its tradition to decorate a baby boys room in blue, so why not make use of that for his 1st birthday?

You can easily find decorating kits online themed in colors from pink to blue. A blue decoration kit can include tissue paper garlands, those fun expandable honeycomb centerpieces and even honeycomb balls that can be hung from the ceiling. One kit decorate a dining room area or the space around your buffet table. They usually include about ten pieces of decorative accents.

There are also decorating kits to give your babys high chair a sweet look. What To Do For Porch And Garden Parties

Entertaining on the Porch

For the outdoor party you might decorate your porch tastefully with flowers. Take a picture of it with a small camera and have it printed on a post card on which you might write a few words of invitation.

Progressive Letters

A good game for the porch is \”Progressive Letters\”. In the center of each of four tables is a pile of letters placed face downward. The hostess announces that the guests are to go to a dry-goods store and make purchases. Then the fun begins, especially for the gentlemen, who are not used to shopping. If you draw an \”R\” and cannot immediately think of some article to purchase in a dry-goods store beginning with that letter, and the one to your left says \”Ribbon\”, she gets the point. The partners obtaining the most points progress. Then the hostess announces that they must call at the drug store for a few purchases; then at the hardware store and the grocery store. After they have done sufficient shopping they are ready to take a trip. This time the letters they draw tell the rivers to be crossed, the cities to be visited and the names of the people they will meet on their tour.

Pin Contest

Another diversion which may be used is a Pin Contest. For this supply each guest with a saucer and one strip of pins from a new package. At a signal each one must take out all the pins and place them in a saucer, and then within a given time put them back in the same holes in the paper.

This is not so easy as it seems, as hurried fingers are sometimes clumsy and the pins must be picked up and put in place one at a time.

Tete-a-Tete Luncheon Boards

Tete-a-tete luncheon boards are a novelty for a small garden party. Partners are seated facing each other and given a lapboard fifteen inches by twenty-four, covered with a linen cloth. A luncheon of sandwiches and salads may be taken care of very comfortably by this means. If used for evening affairs small tables may be placed about to hold the shaded lights, bonbons, olives, etc.

If you have not enough small tables to use on your porch for small groups and your dining room is too limited to seat as many as you wish to invite make each guest a tray of thin board, twelve by fifteen inches, covering it with white paper; then cover pieces of lath with paper, nailing these to the edges and ends of the board, making a strong, unique tray. When your guests have assembled tell them you have arranged a \”Cafeteria Supper\”.

Ask each one to take a tray and go into the dining room, where napkins and silver are first to be placed on the tray, then kindly to go around the dining table, liberally serving oneself from every dish, and return to the porch to eat. Drinks, milk, lemonade, iced tea and buttermilk should be placed on a table in the living room. When this course is finished request each one to place the soiled dishes in a small back room (on a table prepared) and once more to go around the dining-room table for the salad course This procedure may be repeated for ice cream, coffee and cake.

Vacation Trip On The Porch

A \”Vacation Trip on the Porch\” may be made quite enjoyable. Make your porch as festive as you can with pennants, cushions and ferns. Provide a stock of old magazines, scissors and mucilage. Two girls who tried this plan invited thirty girls and arranged eight tables for the \”crowd\”. They cut fake railway tickets in two for partners. Then they told their guests that summer was vacation-time and they were going to give them all a trip. For the best account when they returned a prize would be given.

Booklets were provided, entitled, \”My Vacation\”, and on each page were pictured the \”Conveyances We Rode In, \”The Hotels At Which We Stopped\”, \”What We Ate\”, \”How We Spent Our Time\”, \”What We Saw\”, \”People We Met\”, etc.

A Baby Shower With A Meaningful Theme

A baby shower is a chance for the friends and family of the happy mom and dad to gather, give a few presents and celebrate the soon coming of that little boy or little girl to bless this happy home. It is a time for laughter, a few happy tears and some friendship and closeness as well. And it is a time for the young \”mommy to be\” to be reassured that her friends and family will stand by her side through this new experience.

When you are planning a baby shower for your best friend or sister etc, there are a lot of ways to go with a theme. But if you decide to go with a theme that has a meaningful side to it, the shower can still be lots of fun and also have that sense of reverence for the coming of a new life.

One way to customize the theme of the shower is to make everything happening in the shower about the baby\’s future. So you can focus the games and the decorations on a young life that is coming to the world full of promise and looking down the road of the future with the expecting mommy at a time when her little boy or girl goes off to college to make a real impact on the world in which he or she lives.

To really make that theme come to life, you can make arrangements with all of the guests to make the gifts something that will bless the child as she grows up. Savings bonds are one way of starting a college fund for that unborn child. Imagine if that young mommy starts opening the dozens of gifts on the table and in each box or envelope, she finds a savings bond in the name of the new baby to be. Just knowing that a jump start on the happy future of that child has been done will bring tears and hugs for sure.

You can also plan some special and meaningful touches to the baby shower by providing ways for the guests to leave a greeting for that baby down the line that will become a treasured keepsake of the family. You can have everyone chip in on a lovely comforter or quilt and then have each attendee at the shower sign the blanket with a sharpie so their name and short message will stay with that special comforter for life.

\”Babies then and now\” is also a fun way to link the newborn to his or her lineage. With a bit of detective work, maybe you can lay your hands on pictures or video of the mom or dad when they were babies. Then for a complete surprise bring those out for everyone to watch and laugh over. Seventies Party Tips And Party Plans - Creating A Fun Party That Everyone Will Enjoy

Have rotating sparkle ball, will disco, and your seventies party is sure to be a hit. Most people are familiar with \’That 70s Show\’ and it is a good source of wardrobe and decorating ideas if you want to have a seventies theme party. Another good research source is Saturday Night Fever. If you check for music, wardrobe, and dcor ideas from some of these rather authentic videos based in the seventies, even if you are a child of the seventies, you will be surprised at how much your memory can be refreshed as you realize how much you had forgotten about your era.

Of course, table top disco balls can define the area, old records can be spray painted silver with glitter added, or left plain and hung from ceilings with fishing line. Black lights or colored light bulbs add a festive, seventies air to the festivities. Add incense, and beaded curtains, and throw colorful scarves over any lamps, and you have your own disco inferno.

Of course, music would play a huge part in your Seventies party disco. If you can, hire a disc jockey, or enlist the aid of an individual willing to don disco attire, brush up on the bump, the hustle, or even the Latin Hustle bump, and play D.J. to keep music going for the duration of the party. Have bead stringing contests, tie dye or finger painting contests, depending on the ages of the participants. Add pet rock decorating and naming, and you are on your way to a great seventies bash.

Consider having cheese and chocolate melted in fondue pots, and toothpicks or fondue forks with fruit, crunchy bread cubes, crudits, cake cubes, ham or turkey chunks, and you have easy food on an as needed basis to feed the famished disco dancers at your seventies party!

It\’s party time, and you want a party fit for royalty for your little glitter princess girl! You should consider a Glitter Princess party! One of the best times to plan your child\’s Glitter Princess Party birthday is during the after Halloween clearance sales before the party. This is especially appropriate for certain themes like Princesses, Wizards, Harry Potter, or popular Superheros. You can purchase costumes and party favors as well as candies that can be frozen and stored until party time at substantial savings the day after Halloween.

If you have not planned ahead and hit the Halloween clearance sales, you can still have a great party. Over The Hill Birthday Party Menu For Those Old Farts!

Instead of a potentially insulting over the hill birthday party themes why not emphasize the fact that those who have reached a certain age have also arrived? Pull out all the stops and plan a menu that will really be a reason to celebrate? Why not over the hill surf and turf?

That\’s right. Serve each guest a small lobster tail and petite rib eye steak served with baked potato, dinner roll, and salad or Cole slaw. The salad dressing selections should be excellent ones. Nothing too complicated but infinitely worthy of the occasion. Lobster tails are sometimes reasonably inexpensive. They are a good choice when this is the case. To prepare them drop into a boiling kettle of water. Reduce heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Drain excess water and cool. Using kitchen scissors remove under shell to expose lobster meat. Place in broiler pan and brush with melted butter. Broil two to three minutes being very watchful. Caution is needed since the butter can catch fire if left too long. Serve with melted butter and lemon wedge.

Unless feeling like going to a lot of bother preparing individual steak orders it is probably best to fry them all well done. Cooking times vary but steak will be firm to the touch when well done. Another test for doneness is to press down on each with a spatula. When juices run clear steak is well done.

Of course the meal itself will need to be served on solid stoneware or china but desert calls for themed paper party supplies. The tablecloth, paper plates and cups can all reflect the over the hill theme. But once again make the cake and ice cream both very impressive ones. After all the meal was excellent don\’t skimp on dessert. Have a Tasty Time!
