Losing Weight with Hypothyroidism

Losing weight with hypothyroidism is quite possible if you eat right things at right time. For those people who struggle with the condition of tackling overweight and hypothyroidism at a time, it becomes difficult to cope up. At first, if one has gained weight before the thyroid problem was diagnosed, one would probably told that it would be easier to lose weight or perhaps one might have been told that he or she would lose all the extra weight once the thyroid hormone replacement theory starts.

The situation turns more troublesome when the weight does not come off even though the thyroid hormone has been supplied. Later, despite \'normal\' TSH levels, the low-fat and low-calorie diet and exercises, one can find that the weight is still gaining and not losing. Along with that, you might have high cholesterol levels.

The breakthrough for this is balanced diet, regular physical activities in terms of exercises and modification in lifestyle; all together make winning combination against both; overweight and hypothyroidism. The diet should contain enough roughage i.e. fiber as it is best flusher to remove toxins and unwanted materials from the body. Fiber is also said to bind fats along with it and then eliminate it with the defecation. Along with fiber, one should also drink plenty of water daily that exactly play role of fiber in intestines and in the bloodstream. It removes toxins from the body and flushes out the unwanted materials.

Latest researches approve that Yoga and Pranayama play great role in losing weight with hypothyroidism. These holy exercises tone up the body systems and restore the hormonal levels in the body. Yoga and Pranayama also improves the enzyme production in the body that can help absorbing nutrients from the food that is consumed. If the food is well digested, it will be used as nourishment and will not be stored as fats anywhere in the body.

Brisk walking, cycling, swimming and playing sports like squash and lawn tennis is also good idea to lose weight in effective manner. Some of the herbs also help in reducing the body weight along with offering control over the thyroid gland. Guggulu is one of the Ayurvedic herbs that is helpful reducing the body weight. Many naturopaths suggest using other herbs such as ginseng and Spirulina to restore the body\'s vitality that is affected due to hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism brings obesity in majority of the cases. This is because the thyroid hormone plays important role in metabolism of the body. When there is less thyroid hormone present in the body, the metabolism is slower down and then the body cannot digest the food properly. The food that is used for nourishment of the body is now stored as fats. Balanced diet, light exercises, Yoga and Pranayama, herbal supplements and a proper lifestyle can restore the enzymes and hormones in the body and help in accelerating the metabolism result of which, the body digests food well and thus maintains the body weight.
