The Birthday Treasure Hunt - How to Tailor One for Your Needs

Posted on June 16, 2008

Treasure hunt is a great theme for childrens party because a lot of activity is involved in treasure hunts and children are always very active people. Though usually the words treasure hunt conjures up pirates and villains and are more popular with boys than girls, with some imagination and creativity treasure hunts can be adapted to parties for girls too. The trick lies in parents making sure that their treasure hunt blends with the theme of the party.

First of all, decide on the theme of the party. If there is no specific theme, then it is simply putting in the fun clues in the hunt, which will lead the children to finding fun prizes. However, if there is a specific theme, then parents will be more specific in the choice of ambience, costumes, clues and prizes.

To start a treasure hunt, the most important item is the map. Depending on the theme of the party, use the appropriate type of paper, writing or font of the words and other decorative items to correspond with the theme and mood of the party. Purchase items and clues that relate to that theme.

Have the treasure take place within the confines of a certain area or location. Setting the boundaries allow the children to know where to look and not just wander aimlessly looking for items they are not familiar with. This will also allow easier supervision of the kids during the treasure hunt.

When the children eventually complete their treasure hunt, remember to get prizes for them that are relevant to the theme of the party. This will not only tie up the whole event but also help the children to receive prizes that they are interested in, since your child would have picked a theme that interests both him or her and their friends in the first place.

Prizes for the treasure hunt need not be costly and expensive. A great variety of toys and prizes are available at your local dollar store for a fraction of the prize. During the treasure hunt itself, conceal small items as treasures and these are to be prizes for the finders. At the end of the hunt, give a grand prize to the winner. Parents need to utilize their options and not limit themselves in order to create the perfect treasure hunt. Even the most obscure theme can be used to create a highly, successful and enjoyable activity for the children, if only we let our imagination and creativity take over.
