The Home Schooling Movement

Posted on July 8, 2008

Homeschooling used to be a topic that didnt come up at the office, in church or other social situations. However, as times have changed, so has the topic of homeschooling. You may be thinking that homeschooling still is a rare thought that comes into your mind, but you wouldnt be alone if you now actually know a few people that homeschool their children. This alternative way to teach your children has become more and more mainstream in the past few years. Why?

People can debate for hours and hours about why more and more individuals are starting to homeschool their children. Here are just a few of those arguments:

Public School System Degrading:

The public school system in the past 5-10 years has gone through a dramatic change. The schools are more crowded and new schools arent being built fast enough or there is not enough funding to keep up with the growth. Teachers are fewer and fewer, especially the good ones. Pay, benefits, and forced curriculum and rules are causing our youth to shy away from the teaching field. The alternative to this is to send your child to private school, but as you may well know, this is hard on the wallet.

  • Separation of Church and State:

As we grow as a country, more and more rules are being placed upon school districts on the celebration of holidays, what can be said in school, the debate between evolution and creation, and so on. Parents are wanting to have more control over what is being placed into their childs mind and arent always agreeing with what the public school system is forced to comply with due to lawsuits.

  • Safety:

Believe it or not, parents dont feel as good as they used to when they drop their children off at school. They do not feel that they are leaving their child in a safe environment. With more and more school shootings, more parents are wanting to have control over the safety of their children and are making the choice not to send them to and environment where their children have to walk through metal detectors in order to get in the front door. Of course there are many more reasons that what is stated above, but when you think about it, its not so hard to understand why the developing trend is to homeschool your children.
