The Origins of NLP

Posted on July 20, 2008

NLP was discovered in the 1970's by Bandler and Grinder who wanted to make their discovery available or anyone to take advantage of. The techniques that they discovered could help people to improve their lives by influencing and being able to change human behaviour.

Some of their techniques and distinctions that they discovered are pacing and leading, anchors, rep systems, perceptual positions and the Meta model. Their attitude was basically that I one person could do something and have a good result, and then anyone could do it if they were to have a detailed model of the first persons strategy.

NLP discovered that human experience comes in at least five modalities being: visual, auditory, kinaesthetic, olfactory and gustatory, which correspond to the five senses: sight, hearing, feeling, smell and taste.

Bandler and Grinder discovered that these sub-modalities controlled a great deal of the human behaviour and that if you could somehow combine past and future experiences that you can change your behaviours.

This is because our behaviours are basically based on past experiences and I we have many negative past experiences we may continue to make negative decisions and live a life full of negative experiences.

Imagine if you remember what you had for dinner last night and you can imagine what you will have for dinner tomorrow night, how does your brain tell the two apart. How does your brain tell the past from the future and things you like from things you don't like.

What if you could imagine the things you like off to your right and the things you dislike off to your left, and then swap their positions? Study showed that in most cases people would start to like the things they previously disliked by using this swapping technique.

So imagine how it could change your life if you could swap your past negative experiences with imagined future positive experiences.

Your brain could start making decisions based on these positive experiences and open up a whole new happy and positive life for you.

NLP changes people's lives for the better. Everyone's lifestyles are created through a lifetime of beliefs, attitudes and actions. Everyone uses these techniques every day but at an unconscious level and their brain automatically follows the same pattern they have used all their life. NLP techniques teach you how to use the same techniques your brain automatically uses but to use it on a more conscious level enabling you to change your life and get any outcome that you desire.
