What Is Blogging Anyway?

Just what is blogging?
At its simplest, blogging is a way of sharing your thoughts with other people. It\'s often used as an online diary, where you write entries daily, weekly, or whenever you\'re in the mood.
These diary entries are then shown in reverse date order, with the latest blog entry first. Which is quite logical when you think about it. Unless you\'re a murder suspect, most people who know you will be more interested in what you\'ve done recently than where you were on the night of the 21st August between the hours of 8pm and 11pm. Unless, of course, you were at a great party, mixing with lots of celebrities.
Blogging can be done on your own or with others. If you join up with other people, it\'s often called a collaborative blog.
For instance, you may use collaborative blogging to keep people informed about a project or study you\'re doing.
Personal blogs are often used to keep friends (and anyone else who knows you) informed about new discoveries you\'ve made. New bands, a great theater show, that kind of thing.
Business blogs keep the world up to date on your business. New developments, product launches, maybe new or unusual uses for your products. Pretty much anything that people could be interested in reading about your business.
It\'s likely that blogging in a business context will be subject to a few more rules than blogging about your personal life. It wouldn\'t do the image of a business much good if some of those pictures from the office party made their way onto the corporate blog.
Blogging doesn\'t just have to be about typing your thoughts.
Many blogs include pictures to illustrate the points they make. Photos add interest to a blog - most people are visual by nature and we nearly all enjoy looking at photographs.
A more recent introduction to the world of blogs is the inclusion of video. More and more people are carrying simple video cameras on their cell phones and the 30 second attention span of a cell phone video fits with today\'s low attention span world as well as the time restrictions of online video.
