What is the Risk of Infection With Tumescent Liposuction?

Like any type of surgical procedure there are many risks, complications and dangers involved. Fortunately with any type of plastic surgery procedure the advantages tend to greatly outweigh the risks making it perfect for almost anyone who qualifies.
The good news is that when talking about tumescent liposuction, the chances that you may get an infection is considered to be a rare complication. In general most patients will never have to worry about any type of infection associated with this type of liposuction procedure. It does however happen and it is still an unknown as to exactly what causes this infection. Most plastic surgeons have come to a unanimous theorization that the infections are rare because of fat cells that were ruptured during the procedure. Still some theorize that the anesthetic itself creates an anti bacterial environment prohibiting growth of bacterium.
Regardless of the rarity of the chance of infection, they still happen from time to time. In the event of an infection after receiving a tumescent liposuction procedure, the patient will be required to return to a hospital in order to receive antibiotics through an intravenous drip as well as undergo another procedure to remove the infected cells from the abdominal region.
The chance that you may get an infection after receiving a tumescent liposuction is very rare. It is almost as rare as the possibility of death and for most patients it is not even a risk one should worry about when weighing the risks to advantages.
Much like any procedure it is important to discuss with your surgeon any possible medical issues that may affect the outcome of the surgery. These medical issues may include things like immune deficiencies which may lead to the rare infections.
Make sure you ask as many questions of your surgeon concerning the procedure so that you can ensure that your chances for complications can be lowered as much as medically possible. It is also important to know as much about the procedure and its possible risks before even going into the surgeon's office for your consultation. Being over prepared is always better than having to make a decision based on a guess or whim.
